European Championships 2007 in Spain

Germany vs. Czechia

83:78 (74:74, 25:31)

Dirk: 35 points, 10 rebounds. He was brilliant!

Jesus Christ, this was tight. Dirk was the best player of Germany, but guard Mithat Demirel also did his part.

Tomorrow we play against Turkey... May the Basketball-Gods be with us...

Love,
Rob.

I'm happy to report that Dirk indeed did return from Australia and even better, he still plays basketball as I was able to witness with my own two eyes last Sunday. I attended the second game he played with the German national team against China. It was a preparation game for the upcoming European Championship in Spain.
Dirk was already in good shape and seems to take matters seriously since a successful tournament would mean the team is automatically qualified for the Olympic Games in Peking which is an event Dirk often has said he wants to go to. When he joined the national team he already had worked with his personal trainer Holger Gschwindner in his hometown Würzburg for six weeks.

Even though it wasn't really an important game I made the one hour trip to Mannheim with a friend since it would probably be a long time before I would be able to see a German MVP in person again that easy.
When we left the parking lot it quickly became clear why most people attended. (You can click on all pictures for bigger picture versions).

I'm sure many of you have seen this video already, but since nobody has posted it yet, I thought I'd share!

It's a hilarious medley of songs about Dirk, Kobe Bryant, and Steve Nash. Enjoy!

I'm more than proud...

Congrats, Dirk, you deserve this more than anyone.
Be happy! Fuck off the playoffs, you have the right to be in one league with Steve, Tim and maybe one day with His Airness.

Love,
Rob.

So many fans are ready for Dirk to be traded. I got into an argument with my mom a while ago.

I wouldn't call us chokers per se, I just really think we needed to step up our game. No one loves the Mavericks or Dirk as much as me (that I know of). I don't want Dirk to go anywhere. I love him on Dallas too much. We've had so many ups and downs and what with the commissioner practically hating our guts, it's been tough.

You can see that all of this is getting to Dirk.

I think he needs some TLC, lol. And his hair needs to grow back. Short hair is like his kryptonite, lol.

I feel like I'm the only person right now that wants to keep him as a Maverick. Please tell me I'm not alone. *sad*

Damn, I love Dirk and the Mavs!

I'm also liking Dirks current short haircut.

Good news: The Mavs have won 11 straight, and play the Kings tomorrow night on ESPN. They are ranked #1 on NBA.com's Power Rankings.

Bad news: Dirk left last night's game with "blurred vision" and has a bruised retina. But he said he'll play tomorrow. :)

Very weird news: Dirk doing a Mick Jagger impression.

Is it sad that when I saw it, the first thing I thought was, "Steve's favorite band is the Rolling Stones"?
THEY HAVE EATEN MY BRAIN! Well, actually that was my second thought. After, "WTF?!"

Wizards 80
Mavericks 107

Seven in a row for the Mavs now! Awesome night for Dirk, 30 points, 14 boards, 5 assists, and awesome night for the team as well! 14 3-pointers as a team!

Next up is a showdown in San Antonio against the Spurs on Friday! It'll be on ESPN, so if you get a chance, tune in and cheer for Dirk and all the boys as they shoot for eight in a row! :)

Going in for two of his many points Tuesday night :)Collapse )

Dirk named Western Conference Player of the Week!, thanks to three double-doubles last week!

The Mavs have won five in a row since starting 0-4! They're currently in the fourth quarter at Charlotte against the Bobcats! See, it was only a matter of time! Let's go Dirk, and let's go Mavs! :)
